Bruno Liddell

Tompkins is a portrait of a community. Tompkins Square Park is, in many ways, an ordinary park, with benches, a skate park, and trees that could exist anywhere. What cannot be replicated is the neighborhood that surrounds it and the people who make it their own. This project is built entirely on interaction with the people. Every photograph was taken after a genuine exchange, a conversation, a moment of friction, a connection; never staged or forced. Growing up and spending countless hours in this park, I wanted to document what I have always felt but rarely seen photographed. The density of life happening in one place. The beauty, the struggle, the strangeness, and the humanity of it all, coexisting in a few city blocks.

Bruno Liddell is an 18-year-old photographer and resident of the Lower East Side, Manhattan. Having captured photographs informally from a young age, he began pursuing photography with greater intention in 2024, initially exploring urban architecture and landscape. Over time, his practice expanded toward something more personal, drawn by a natural ease with people and a curiosity about the lives unfolding around him, he turned his lens toward the human subjects that define his neighborhood.
