Alex Karabelas

With the project titled “We Need Doctors,” I wanted to document the local do-it-yourself music scene of which I am a part. I wanted to depict the love and beauty I have found in this group of young people. I think the topic is a bit of a hot thing to photograph currently, especially with older photographers: the allure of rebellious and raw teens playing wild music. Yet I find that a lot of the time those people want a picture but don’t want to truly be a part of it. My goal has been to depict the people in my community lovingly in order to reciprocate the love they have shown me.
